What We Believe
GOD
- God’s
sovereignty rests at the foundation of all true Christian theology. God
rules in the universe He created. He is always successful in what He
desires to accomplish.
- God is
a Trinity. There is one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. The unity of God can be understood by reason, but the triunity of
God is given by Scriptural revelation and is believed by God-given faith.
- The
purpose of the Bible is to reveal God. Many people have notions of who God
is, but only the Bible reveals God as He truly is.
MAN
- Adam
(the first man) was created good, but by his fall into sin alienated
himself from God. All men, with the exception of Jesus Christ, have fallen
in Adam.
- Man,
in his natural state, is a depraved sinner. He has neither the will nor
the ability to come to God. However, he is still liable to divine justice
for his sin and for his rejection of God.
- The
end of man’s sin, without salvation, is eternal separation from God.
SALVATION
- Salvation
is completely by God, based on His grace, and is in no sense by depraved
man’s will nor by his works.
Salvation includes:
- Election by the Father. Before
time, God chose certain depraved persons to eternal life in Christ Jesus.
- Redemption by the Son. Christ, by
His life, death, and resurrection, paid in full the sin penalty due the
chosen persons (the elect) and insured their regeneration.
- Regeneration by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit applies the work of the Son to the elect through the new
birth at God’s appointed time. Each of the elect receives the new birth
sometime between his conception and his physical death. Faith is the gift
of God and is a fruit of regeneration.
THE CHURCH
- The
Lord Jesus Christ set up His church during the days of His earthly
ministry.
- The
Lord guaranteed perpetuity to His church until His Second Coming.
- Each
local church is autonomous. There is no higher ecclesiastical institution
than the local assembly. However true New Testament churches should
exercise loving fellowship with each other and should cooperate in the
propagation of the gospel.
THE FUTURE
- The
hope of the church is the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The
blessed hope of Christ’s return has a sanctifying effect on the present
life.
- The
Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will bring everlasting joy to the
blood-bought children of God, and everlasting punishment to the wicked.
