A Thought From the Word
"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body
of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to Him who is raised from
the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God." Romans 7:4
What a beautiful picture of
describing what should be our relationship and walk with Jesus Christ: a
marriage. The enemy would not have us look at following Jesus in this light. He
would have us see Christ as a cruel, hard dictator, who desires to rob us of
our joy. He may have us see our Savior as only a strict disciplinarian, who is
eagerly waiting for us to make a false move, so He can bring down harsh
discipline.
Christ is our King; He is
our Creator. We owe Him the highest reverence possible. We owe Him our best
obedience. But what should the foundation of this service be? It is not that of
an abused child, serving out of slavish fear. But, it is that of love, pure and
genuine love. Just as a husband and wife love one another and delight to please
each other by serving, so our service to Christ should be delight and joy, not
slavish fear.
One way to maintain this kind of spirit is to continually meditate on Him. How easy our hearts get spiritually chilled by a sinful nature and evil world. Necessary is it for us to keep in constant communion with the Lord, ponder His incredible love, and therefore, serve Him (even when it's difficult) out of loving delight.
