"I love the Lord, because He hath heard my
voice and my supplications."
Psalm 116:1
There are many reasons to love the Lord and praise
His name. One very precious reason is the one listed above in our verse. The
author was not just casually calling upon God in this situation. According to
verse three, the sorrows of death were surrounding him; he was calling upon God
while experiencing great trouble and sorrow.
At some point in our lives, we all have "crisis
troubles" or know people who are experiencing them. Our world seems turned
upside down. Shocking circumstances occur and a sense of normalcy is shattered.
Questions of "why, when, how" flood our minds. In the middle of all
this, God may seem far away and distant from the situation. However, rest assured
that "the Lord is nigh unto all that call upon Him" (Ps. 145:18).
Even though He may not seem close, He hears the
burdened cries of His people. The Psalmist said he loved the Lord because the
Lord heard his prayers. It is a great wonder that the Master Designer and Lord
of the universe hears (not hurriedly or with distraction) the groans of His
people. He hears…keep praying!
