A Thought From the Word
"The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh
Him." Lamentations 3:25
To dig into the meat of this
passage let us define some of the word meanings. 'Good' here means pleasant,
beautiful, excellent, delightful, lovely, joyful, etc. It can also signify
benefits of various kinds. 'Wait' means to expect, await, look for patiently,
hope, to be confident, trust.
So we have this greatly
encouraging statement from God to us that He is good, beautiful, delightful,
and promises to bless those who wait for Him expectantly and confidently trust
in Him. But, we must recognize that we are not to just sit in our spiritual
"rocking chairs" expecting God to come and reveal His great beauty to
us. Those who look for Him expectantly are also busy seeking Him!
Those who wait for God are
digging diligently into His word. They are drawing near to God in prayer, and
they are serving Him by serving others and attempting to walk in His ways.
There is great encouragement for us to actively, diligently pursue God.
The voice of discouragement may say, "You're not good enough to seek God. He will not come down so low to fellowship with you. You are too far from Him." God says something else. He promises that He is good and gracious to those (no matter how far away they have been) who seek Him and expectantly wait for Him.
