"For Thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall." Isaiah 25:4 

What an encouraging God! For the poor and weak and needy, God gives words of an uplifting nature. For those who are in the storm, the Lord points to Himself as the Source of sustaining.

Distress, weakness, storms, etc. are all real. The Lord doesn't minimize the reality of our struggles and needs. He doesn't tell us to be in denial towards them. But, He does call us to run to Him for the strength and aid that we need. Surely, this is one of the reasons that God suffers us to go through storms and experience weakness and pain: that we may learn to lean upon Him completely. During peace and prosperity, human nature inclines us to "relax" our faith. But, when we encounter the storm, we are made to experience God in a very real way.

Remember where your strength is. Remember where the refuge is. It is in God alone.
