"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him." Ephesians 1:17

This was the first request in this prayer of Paul for the Ephesian saints. It is certainly one that we should pray for ourselves today. We all stand in need of Divine wisdom. There are many opinions and ideas in the world today but the only infallible, sure source of wisdom is God and His word.

When Paul prays for them to have revelation, he is not asking God to give new truth, or something different or additional to the Bible (such as "new Scriptures or holy books"), to the saints. Rather, he is asking the Lord to reveal (uncover, unveil) the truth of His word to them. Do you need this? Have you ever read the Scriptures and felt like there was much there that you needed to understand more clearly? Have you ever studied a Biblical subject and realized that the more you learned, the more you realized how little you knew? I've been/still am there!

Let's follow Paul's example and ask God to give us wisdom and understanding in His word. Let's ask Him to unveil some things so that we can see them clearly. The result will be a wonderful growth "in the knowledge of Him." The idea is not increased knowledge so that our head can swell with intellectual pride, but so that we can know Him better!
